Gardenia and its Symbolism
Gardenia
The gardenia is a plant of the family Rubiaceae from China, the scientific name of the most common species is Gardenia jasminoides. It is an evergreen shrub with dark green, shiny and smooth. Their flowers are white, like roses and are commonly used as ornamentals. A flower, placed in a cup with water, can perfume with a strong and pleasant scent a room for a couple of days.
The genus was named by Carl Linnaeus in honor of Alexander Garden (1730-1791), a Scottish naturalist.
One of its main cultural requirements is that they need to grow in acidic soils composed of iron and plenty of moisture. Can have an average height of 2 m, depending on the species. The seasons most suitable for cultivation are spring and autumn.
Symbolism
The gardenia, estimated especially China, is the symbol of feminine grace, subtlety and artistic merit.
